The Drysdale building is one of the three buildings which make up the historic Putnam Block in Downtown Bennington. The current project is phase one of a multi-phase adaptive re-use of the buildings. The challenge confronting the designers and developers of the Drysdale building was to rehab the building for modern use while maintaining the integrity of the historic exterior within a budget which allows the building to be a financial success and to pave the way to the further development of the Putnam Block. The third floor has been adapted as four one-bedroom condominium residences. In addition to these interior renovations, the alley between this building and the neighboring “Courthouse” building has been in-filled and is now the vertical circulation core providing access and egress to the two buildings. The building envelope was upgraded with new windows, spray foam insulation and new mechanical and fire safety systems.
